As we hadn’t made any Labor Day weekend getaway plans, we decided to head on over to Applebees on Smokey Park Highway on Saturday, to enjoy a good meal and to check out what they have new on the menu.
We timed it to beat the evening rush and wouldn’t have to wait for a table. Our waitress was a young woman named Sidney, and I have to say here, she was a wonderful, light hearted, pleasant waitress, if you live near this location, seriously, ask to sit in her section if you go in! (And as a disclaimer, I do not know this young lady personally.) Anyway, a co-worker had told me I should try their shrimp appetizer, she couldn’t remember what it was called, but she said she thought I’d like it.
When Sidney came with our sweet tea and asked if we were ready to order, I started with the Sriracha Shrimp Appetizer, and for my entree I ordered a full rack of Double Glazed Baby Back Ribs with a salad and grilled veggies. Roger ordered the Shrimp n’ Parmesan Sirloin with Garlicky Green Beans and Fries.
It didn’t take long for our appetizer to arrive and oh. my. goodness! My co-worker was right! If you like shrimp, then you absolutely must try these! Big, tender shrimp in BBQ spice and Sriracha chile lime sauce, the flavors definitely compliment one another in this mixture!
Roger is very particular about how his steak is cooked, so it’s always a wait for him to cut into it and take his first bite to see if it’s cooked the way he wanted it cooked. When he took his first bite, the look on his face told me it had been cooked to perfection for him. He said it was very well seasoned, tender and juicy and the Parmesan sauce gave it a little flavor burst. He was very happy with this choice.
As soon as my order was placed in front of me, my mouth was watering. Ordering ribs in a restaurant, you have a 50/50 chance that they’ll come out greasy and I don’t care for that, but these came out juicy, tender, packed with good BBQ flavor and miniscule grease on the plate, which made them absolutely perfect!
I’d been thinking about a Cracker Jack Banana Cheesecake for dessert, but alas, when I finished eating, I was stuffed to the gills, not a smidgen of space left for dessert.
In conclusion, overall, the menu has a nice variation of dishes to choose from, the only thing I would put on my wish list for my next visit, is the option to order a small side salad with my meal, rather than the full big salad they offer as an entree or add on. Service was excellent, as I said above our server went above and beyond to provide us with exceptional service with a great attitude!
And don’t forget! Right now and up until September 9th, 2016, when you go to Applebee’s you can enter to win a date night and experience with an arv of $200!!
